Southeast Asian film distributor Purple Plan announced on Tuesday that it will screen the live-action film of Hiroya Oku's Inuyashiki manga in Singapore beginning on May 24. The company will also screen the film in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam at an as-yet unannounced date.
The film opened in Japan on April 20, and it sold 91,000 tickets and earned 124 million yen (about US$1.14 million) to rank #5 in its opening weekend. As of May 6, the film has earned a total of 605,686,900 yen (about US$5.56 million). The film is expected to surpass 1 billion yen (about US$9.21 million) at the box office.
The film's cast includes:
Noritake Kinashi as Ichiro Inuyashiki, the protagonist, and a typical, middle-aged salaryman
Takeru Satoh as Hiro Shishigami, a sociopathic murderer
Mari Hamada as Marie Inuyashiki, Ichiro's wife
Yuki Saito as Yūko Shishigami, Hiro's mother

Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in print in North America, and it released the 10th compiled volume on December 19. Crunchyroll also released the series digitally, and it describes the story.
Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck. While only 58 years old, his geriatric looks often have him written off as a pathetic old man by the world around him and he's constantly ignored and disrespected by his family despite all that he's done to support them. On top of everything else, his doctor has revealed that he has cancer and it appears that he has little time left in this world. But just when it seems things couldn't get any worse, a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichiro stands. He later wakes up to find himself unscathed, but he soon starts to notice that there's something…different about himself.
Oku launched the manga in Kodansha's Evening magazine in January 2014, and the manga's 10th and final volume shipped in Japan last September.

Hollywood Live-Action Monster Hunter Film Features Milla Jovovich, Starts Production in September
Entertainment news website Variety reported on Friday that Constantin Film's Hollywood live-action film adaptation of CAPCOM's Monster Hunter action game franchise will feature Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil movie franchise). The film is budgeted at around US$60 million, and will shoot in and around Cape Town in South Africa. The film will start production in September.
Constantin Film said that it is in "the final stages of negotiation" to partner with “a big company” in Japan, and another in China. The Japanese and Chinese companies each will take equity in the project. Constantin Film is otherwise funding the film itself.
Martin Moszkowicz, Chairman of the Executive Board of Constantin Film, said at Cannes that Constantin Film is planning the project as a film series, adding, "we are in the business of brand creation."
Constantin Film produced all six films in the Paul W.S. Anderson-directed Resident Evil franchise. Anderson is also directing the Monster Hunter film, and his Impact Pictures producing partner Jeremy Bolt is producing. Impact Pictures released a concept picture for the film (seen left) in November 2016, showing a dragon at Los Angeles International Airport.
Impact Pictures describes the film:
For every Monster, there is a Hero. An ordinary man in a dead end job discovers that he is actually the descendant of an ancient hero. He must travel to a mystical world to train to become a Monster Hunter, before the mythical creatures from that world destroy ours.
Anderson has written a draft for the film's script. Mr. X will produce the special effects, and the company's president Dennis Berardi is credited as producer. The story will have an ordinary person traveling to the Monster Hunter world before coming back to the real world to fight an "epic battle in and around LAX."
Anderson stated that he sees the film and the game's world as an "opportunity to have a cinematic universe."

Sony, Nintendo Update Warranty Policies After FTC Warning
Sony and Nintendo both updated their warranty statements for the United States and Canada this week following a warning from the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Both companies' statements previously said that their warranties would not apply if a product was used with a third-party peripheral (such as an adapter or power supply). They now specify that the warranties will not apply only if these third party products caused the damage.
Sony also removed a clause saying that the warranty would not apply if the warranty seal had been altered or removed. The company replaced this with a stipulation that the warranty will not apply "to damage caused by opening the product or to damage caused by service performed by someone other than a representative of SIE [Sony Interactive Entertainment] or an SIE-authorized service provider."
The FTC announced last month that it issued a warning to six companies — including Sony and Nintendo — about questionable language in the companies' statements regarding consumers voiding warranties when breaking stickers on the product, or when using parts or products not sold by the companies themselves. The FTC cautioned that such language is prohibited by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, unless the companies themselves provide such parts or services for free, or are waived by the FTC.
The FTC asked the companies to review their promotional and warranty materials, and revise their practices to comply with the law. The FTC said it would review the companies' websites after 30 days, and warned, "failure to correct any potential violations may result in law enforcement action."

The anime itself is an adaptation of Kōji Yanagi's novel of the same name. The original novel is set in 1937, before World War II begins in earnest. Lieutenant Colonel Yūki of the Imperial Japanese Army forms the "D Agency," an army intelligence outfit under his command and tutelage. Army General Staff attaches Lieutenant Sakuma to observe the unit's performance. D Agency casts a wide net to find agents beyond Japanese military personnel, and Yūki establishes D Agency's tenets, which go against IJA doctrine: "Don't kill, don't get killed, don't get captured." With this, Yūki trains a team of operatives who conduct missions against domestic and foreign powers.
Production I.G's television anime adaptation of the novel premiered in April 2016. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation streamed an English dub for the anime.
Subaru Nitō launched a manga adaptation of the anime in Mag Garden's Comic Garden magazine in February 2016, and ended it on January 5. Mag Garden published the manga's fifth and final compiled book volume on March 10.
Yanagi published the original Joker Game novel in 2008. The novel won the Nihon Suiri Sakka Kyōkai-shō (Mystery Writers of Japan) award in 2009. Yū Irie directed a live-action adaptation of the novel, which premiered in Japan in January 2015. Yanagi followed up the original novel with three sequel novels — titled Double Joker, Paradise Lost, and Last Waltz — in 2009, 2012, and 2015, respectively. The series has more than 1 million copies in print.

However, six days after the incident, those who lost consciousness from the sound awaken for no apparent reason. Those blockaded in Tokyo slowly start to get the city functioning again, but after that day strange incidents start to occur at the blockade border. Those who have awakened a hidden blood power arise, are drawn to one another, and must face a cruel fate.

The attendees of the 57th Japan Science Fiction Convention at "Juracon" in Gunma will vote on the winners, and the staff will announce the winners at the convention on July 21.
"Seiun Shō" literally translates to "nebula awards," but the Japan SF Con's Seiun Awards are more akin to the Hugo Awards, in that the attendees of each respective convention vote on the winners. There is another set of awards, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Japan's Nihon SF Taishō honors, that are the rough Japanese equivalent of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America's Nebula Awards. Like the Hugo Awards, the Seiun Awards honor all forms of speculative fiction — including but not limited to science fiction — and related materials.
Previous winners of the Seiun Awards include Shin Godzilla, Kochikame, Girls und Panzer, Knights of Sidonia, The World of Narue, Bodacious Space Pirates, Range Murata, Masamune Shirow, Makoto Shinkai, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gundam: The Origin, 20th Century Boys, Summer Wars, Cardcaptor Sakura, Madoka Magica, Pacific Rim, Space Battleship Yamato 2199, Moyashimon, and more.

Producer Takayuki Nagatani stated at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in March 2016, "if we could decide on a theme, there might be a chance [for a sequel]" to Shirobako.
Shirobako focuses primarily on Aoi Miyamori, a production assistant at a fictional anime studio called Musashino Animations. The story follows the daily office life and problems that arise in an animation studio, and the workflow in making an anime. Parallel to that, the show also focuses on Miyamori's friends, who all work or are aiming to work in the anime industry: a key animator, a CG animator, an aspiring voice actress, and a scriptwriter.
The 24-episode anime premiered in October 2014, and Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series, and released it on home video in North America in 2016.

Sentai Filmworks Licenses Dai-kaiju Mono Live-Action Film
Section23 Films announced in its August release slate on Tuesday that its Sentai Filmworks imprint will release the live-action film Dai-kaiju Mono on Blu-ray Disc on August 14.
https://youtu.be/R6F0L8nQOk4
Sentai Filmworks describes the story:
Things aren't looking good in Japan. The weather is acting strangely, volcanoes that don't normally erupt are erupting, and… oh yes… the giant monster Mono is running amuck and gobbling up the human population. What a nuisance! Fortunately, disgraced Doctor Totaro Saigo thinks he has the solution: a special formula that can be injected into a normal human, causing the injectee to grow into a colossus of Tokyo-skyscraper-stomping proportions! With any luck, that means the good doctor's lab assistant Nitto will be able to take on Mono, hand to claw, in “mano a Mono” combat! Yes, the plan is every bit as insane as it sounds, and the logic of the plot will be stretched as thin as the fabric of Nitto's ultra-stretchy briefs when the ultimate human vs. monster wrestling match erupts in DAI-KAIJU MONO!
The film debuted in Japan in July 2016. It stars professional wrestler Kōta Ibushi.

Viz Media publishes the manga in North America, and serialized chapters of the manga in its English version of Weekly Shonen Jump. The publisher describes the story:

However, Raku's searching for his childhood sweetheart from ten years ago, with a pendant around his neck as a memento, but he can't even remember her name or face!
Komi drew the original "Nisekoi" one-shot manga in Shueisha's Jump Next! magazine in early 2011, and turned it into a manga series in Weekly Shonen Jump in November of the same year. The manga ended in August 2016. Shueisha published the manga's 25th and final compiled book volume in October 2016, and Viz Media published the 25th volume on January 2.
The series inspired two television anime seasons. The anime's first season premiered in Japan in January 2014 with 20 episodes. The 12-episode second season premiered in Japan in April 2015. Crunchyroll streamed the first series, and Aniplex of America streamed the second series on the Aniplex Channel, Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Daisuki services.
