Crimson Hero's Mitsuba Takanashi Launches Otome Tsubaki wa Warawanai Manga

 

This year's November issue of Shueisha's Cocohana magazine revealed on Friday that Mitsuba Takanashi will launch a new manga titled Otome Tsubaki wa Warawanai (The Woman Tsubaki Doesn't Laugh) in the magazine's December issue on October 26. The manga will feature on the December issue's front cover, and the first chapter will have 50 pages and an opening color page.

 

The manga centers on Tsubaki Kanno, a 25-year-old straightforward woman who works at a stationery shop.

 

Takanashi launched the Sumika Sumire manga in August 2013Cocohana, and ended the series in its 11th volume, which shipped on June 25. The manga inspired an eight-episode live-action television adaptation that premiered in February 2016.

 

Takanashi ended her Crimson Hero manga in 2008, and Viz Media published the manga as one of the four launch titles in the Shojo Beat magazine in 2005 in North America. DC Comics' shuttered CMX Manga imprint also published Takanashi's The Devil Does Exist manga.

100 Sleeping Princes and the Kingdom of Dreams Gets 2nd Stage Play Next Year

 

The official website for the stage play adaptation of GCREST's Yume Ōkoku to Nemureru 100-Nin no Ōji-sama (100 Sleeping Princes and the Kingdom of Dreams) smartphone game announced a second stage play last week. The new show will have performances in January and February 2019.

 

The first stage play, Butai Yume Ōkoku to Nemureru 100-Nin no Ōji-sama Prince Theater, ran from July 21 to July 25 at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo. The play featured an original story with 13 princes from the Country of Gems, Country of Wonder, and Country of Snow. The play will get a Blu-ray Disc and DVD release on January 26.

The game, which launched on Android and iOS devices in 2015, has the theme of romance with a prince "whom every woman dreams of." The game lets players experience love with over 100 princes who live in the Kingdom of Dreams. Players solve puzzles to wake up the princes from their deep slumber.

 

The game already inspired a series of 10 web anime shorts last year, and the television anime, 100 Sleeping Princes and the Kingdom of Dreams: The Animation, premiered in July. A manga adaptation launched in April.

Chūgaku Sei Nikki Live-Action Series Posts Prequel 'Spinoff Movie'

 

The official website for the live-action series adaptation of Junko Kawakami's Chūgaku Sei Nikki (Middle School Hijiri Diary) manga began streaming a short "spinoff movie" for the series on Tuesday. The short, seen below, centers on Akira Kuroiwa (Kenshi Okada) and his group of friends in middle school before Akira meets Hijiri in the main story.

Award-winning 20-year-old director Kana Matsumoto directed the short. The short also features the series' theme song "Prologue" by Uru. The cast includes Kenshi Okada as Akira Kuroiwa, Rina Ono as Runa Iwasaki, Jiei Wakabayashi as Junichirō Kokonoe, and Marin Nishimoto as Atsuki Shiraishi.

Kenshi Okada (seen below) plays the male lead character Akira Kuroiwa, a student who is in love with Hijiri, his homeroom teacher. He is a mysterious but pure boy who acts on his feelings despite knowing that Hijiri is engaged. The role is Okada's debut role.

 

Rina Ono (seen below) plays Runa Iwasaki, a student of Hijiri, and an old friend of Akira. She has a wholehearted crush on Akira and sees Hijiri as an enemy.

 

Ayuko Tsukahara, Kentarō Takemura, and Toshio Tsuboi are directing the series. Arisa Kaneko is penning the script. The series will premiere on TBS on October 9 at 10:00 p.m.

 

The manga is a love story between Akira Kuroiwa, a 14-year-old boy who knows nothing of love, and Hijiri Suenaga, his new 25-year-old homeroom teacher. One fated summer, Akira begins to realize he has feelings for Hijiri, but Hijiri has a long distance fiance. The story follows the pair over the course of several years.

 

Kawakami (It's your world, Galaxy Girl, Panda Boy) launched the manga in June 2013, although the first volume did not ship until July 2016. The fourth volume shipped on July 19. The manga won the seventh anan Manga Awards in 2016.

Alita: Battle Angel Film Pushed Back Again to February 14

 

The Hollywood Reporter reported on Friday that 20th Century Fox has pushed back its release date for Alita: Battle Angel, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez's live-action film of Yukito Kishiro's Battle Angel Alita (GUNNM) manga. The film was scheduled for a wide release on December 21, 2018 after an earlier delay from July 20. It is now scheduled for February 14, 2019.

 

The film will star Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Man Seeking Woman) in motion capture as Alita. Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, Spy Kids) is directing the film. James Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment partner Jon Landau are producing the project, and Shutter Island's Laeta Kalogridis penned a script.

 

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rodriguez said that the film is a self-contained story but "it tunes up a world and a character that could go on and on." Cameron originally planned for a film trilogy.

 

The film will get an IMAX release.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou Game Heads to PS4 in 2019

 

Entergram revealed on Friday that Ryukishi07's Higurashi: When They Cry Hou (Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou) game will ship for PlayStation 4 in Japan on January 24. The release will be available in physical and digital copies, as well as a limited edition.

 

Zakuro Motoki, sound director for 07th Expansion works, said on Twitter on Tuesday that the game would get a PS4 release. Amazon Japan also began listing the game for release on PS4 in 2019.

 

For the PS4 release, the regular physical version will cost 7,980 yen (about US$70), the digital version will cost 6,980 yen (about US$62), and the limited edition will cost 9,980 yen (about US$88). Similar to the Nintendo Switch version, the limited-edition release will bundle a drama CD and visual book. All versions will again include 19 scenarios from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Sui, as well as three new scenarios.

 

The game launched for Nintendo Switch in Japan on July 26.

 

07th Expansion launched the first chapter of the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni visual novel software in 2002 at Comiket. The story revolves around murders that coincide with an annual festival in a quiet rural village. The software inspired two television anime series, several video anime projects, a live-action television series, two live-action films, and manga adaptations by several artists.

Ryūkishi07 and 07th Expansion released Higurashi: When They Cry Hou for PC in Japan in 2014 as a "thank you" to series fans (the kanji used for Hō is used in the word Hōnō, "dedication"). The game includes the previously unreleased work "Hinamizawa Teiryūjo" (Hinamizawa Bus Stop) that was a precursor to the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series, the Higurashi Outbreak original story, and the Higurashi Outbreak: Kamikanshi-hen sequel.

 

MangaGamer released the original visual novel in 2009, and has been releasing Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou as 14 individual chapters. The company released the Higurashi: When They Cry Hou - Ch 6 Tsumihoroboshi visual novel on Steam on June 14.

Funimation to Stream Final Fairy Tail Anime

 

FUNimation Entertainment announced on Friday that it will stream the "final series" of the television anime adaptation of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga this fall. The series is listed on Funimation's simuldub lineup, but Funimation did not confirm whether it will offer an English-subtitled version as it has for previous seasons.

 

The anime will premiere on October 7, and new episodes will debut on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Hokkaido, TV Setouchi, and TV Q Kyuushuu on Sundays at 7:00 a.m.

 

The main staff are all returning from the second and most recent television anime. Shinji Ishihira is directing at A-1 Pictures and Bridge, Masashi Sogo is handling series composition, and Shinji Takeuchi and Toshihiko Sano are designing the characters. Shoji Hata is the sound designer and Yasuharu Takanashi is composing the music. With the exception of the second animation studio and the character designers, the main staff is also the same as the first anime.

 

Mashima's Fairy Tail manga series follows the adventures of world's most notorious mage guild, Fairy Tail. The manga launched in 2006 and ended last July.

Dead or Alive 6 Gets Arcade Edition

 

The official website for Team Ninja's Dead or Alive 6 fighting game announced on Friday that the game will get an arcade version. Sega will distribute the game via its "ALL.Net P-ras MULTI version 3" service, which allows for digital distribution of games to arcade systems throughout Japan.

 

The company has not yet announced a release window for the arcade version.

 

Dead or Alive 6 will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam on February 15, 2019.

killer7 Game's PC Version Video Highlights 4 Playable Characters

 

NIS America began streaming a new video for its PC release of Suda51 (Gōichi Suda) and Grasshopper Manufacture's killer7 game on Friday. The video highlights four of the playable characters: the Wrestler, the Thief, Barefoot, and the Punk. A previous video highlighted Garcian, Dan, and Kevin.

 

NIS America will release the game for the PC via Steam this fall. The release will feature audio in English and text in English, Japanese, French, and German.

 

NIS America describes the story:

 

Dive into a dark world of underground assassins in a tale of revenge as Harman Smith, a man who manifests 7 deadly personalities into the real world, known as the killer7. Take control of this distinct murderers' row as they hunt down the sinister Kun Lan, to stop his plan of world dominance, and end his organization of deadly suicide bombers known as "Heaven Smile."

Suda51 and directors Hiroyuki Kobayashi and Shinji Mikami worked on the game, which Grasshopper Manufacture developed and CAPCOM published on GameCube and PlayStation 2 in 2005.

 

Grasshoper Manufacture is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The studio plans to release Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes for Nintendo Switch this year.

M&C! Licenses He is My Boss, Easy But Complicated Love Manga

 

Indonesian publisher M&C! announced on September 21 that it has licensed Mimi Tajima's He is My Boss (Watashi no Jōshi), Chia Teshima's Easy But Complicated Love (Kantan dakedo, Mendokusai), and Shiori Machida's Flower of Wishes - Forever in Love With You (Negai Hana - Kimi to Isshun de Isshō no Koi o Shita) manga. The company will begin releasing all three manga on October 10.

 

M&C! describes He is My Boss:

 

Megumi finally got a job at her dream toy company. To top it off, she was assigned to the company division responsible for the "Nonki Neco" character, her favorite character brand. She could not have been more excited to go to work. Despite this, on her first day of work, she meets a man who lies to her on the elevator, causing her to get off on the wrong floor and be late for work! It's only later that she finds out that the man is her boss, who has a reputation within the company for being a terror off a boss.

Tajima launched the manga in Shueisha's Cocohana magazine in March 2015. Shueisha published the manga's eighth and final compiled book volume on April 25.

M&C! describes Easy But Complicated Love:

 

Yuha is a simple girl when it comes to love. When someone is kind and pays attention to her, she quite easily falls in love with that someone. At her part time job, Yuha maintains a secret workplace romance with her older coworker Kono. One day, another coworker, Kiryu, tells Yuha that Kono actually has another girlfriend. What will Yuha do?

Teshima launched the manga in Shogakukan's Betsucomi magazine in July 2017, and ended it in the same year. Shogakukan published the manga's one compiled book volume last November. The volume also contains two other short stories by Teshima titled "Koigokoro Graph" (Graph of a Heart in Love) and "Kawaii, dake ja Tarinai no" (It's Not Enough to be Cute).

Flower of Wishes - Forever in Love With You centers on Rino, a woman who only has three months left to live. She moves to the countryside, hoping to see fireworks that are rumored to grant wishes. There, she meets and falls in love with Kanata, an honest man who is training to become a master firework-maker. She shares with him her dream of wanting to live.

 

Machida launched the manga in Shogakukan's Sho-Comi magazine in April 2017, and ended it in the same year. Shogakukan published the manga's one compiled book volume in August 2017.

Live-Action The Anthem of the Heart Film Screens in Hong Kong

 

Hong Kong film distributor Edko Films announced on Wednesday that it will hold two screenings of the live-action film based on The Anthem of the Heart (Kokosake or Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterun Da.) anime film in Hong Kong on Saturday (September 29), and on October 10.

 

The film opened in Japan in July 2017. The film ranked at #9 in its opening weekend in Japan.

 

Naoto Kumazawa (live-action Kimi ni Todoke, Kin Kyori Renai) directed the film. The movie filmed in Chichibu, where the story is set.

 

The official English website for the original anime film describes the story:

 

Jun is a girl whose words have been sealed away. She was once a happy girl, but because of a [certain thing] she said when she was very young, her family was torn apart. One day, the egg fairy appeared in front of her and sealed away her ability to talk in order to stop her from hurting anybody else. Since this traumatic experience, Jun lives in the shadows away from the limelight. But, one day she is nominated to become an executive member of the "community outreach council." On top of that, Jun is also appointed to play the main lead in their musical...

The anime film opened in Japan in September 2015.

 

The anime film reunited staff members from the anohana and Toradora! anime. Tatsuyuki Nagai (A Certain Scientific Railgun, Waiting in the Summer) again directed the film at the studio A-1 Pictures. Mari Okada (Maquia - When the Promised Flower Blooms, A Lull in the Sea, Hana-Saku Iroha) wrote the script, and Masayoshi Tanaka (Highschool of the Dead, your name.) designed the characters.

Live-Action Saint Young Men Net Series Debuts on October 18

 

The official website for the live-action adaptation of Hikaru Nakamura's Saint Young Men (Saint Oniisan) manga revealed on Saturday that the show will premiere on Kakao Japan's new Piccoma TV streaming service on October 18. The show will have 10 episodes, including one original episode. A special screening with staff and cast in attendance will be held at TOHO CINEMAS Roppongi Hills on October 18.

 

The show will also have a special two-week limited screening in more than 40 AEON theaters in Japan starting on October 12.

 

Ken'ichi Matsuyama (live-action Death Note, Gantz) will play Jesus and Shōta Sometani (live-action Parasyte, Bakuman.) will play Buddha. Additionally, Jiro Sato (live-action Death Note, Gintama) will play a doctor, and Umi Yamano (live-action Aoi Honō, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.) will play the landlady of the apartments where Jesus and Buddha live together.

 

Actor Takayuki Yamada is producing, and Yūichi Fukuda (live-action Gintama, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. films) is directing the project and penning the script.

 

Nakamura launched the manga in Morning two in 2006, and Kodansha shipped the manga's 15th compiled volume on June 22. The manga imagines if Buddha and Jesus shared a low-rent Tokyo apartment.

 

The manga inspired an anime film that premiered in Japan in May 2013. The manga's eighth and ninth volumes both bundled original anime DVDs when they shipped in December 2012 and July 2013, respectively.

 

The manga won the Short Story award at the 13th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2009, and was also nominated for a Manga Taisho award in the same year.

My Hero Academia Anime Gets 4th Season

 

The 25th and final episode of the third My Hero Academia television anime series ended on Saturday with the words "To be Continued 4th Season."

The third season premiered on April 7, and covered the "Forest Training Camp" arc and the "Pro Hero Provisional License Exam" arc from Kōhei Horikoshi's original manga. Funimation is streaming the English dub of the third season, and Crunchyroll and Hulu are streaming the series with English subtitles.

 

The third season features the same staff, including director Kenji Nagasaki at BONES, scriptwriter Yousuke Kuroda, character designer Yoshihiko Umakoshi (with assistance by Hitomi Odashima), and composer Yuki Hayashi.

 

The anime's first 13-episode season premiered in April 2016. The 25-episode second season premiered in April 2017.

 

Horikoshi launched the original manga series in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 2014. Shueisha published the manga's 20th volume on September 4. The 13th and 14th volumes of the manga both bundled OVAs in 2017.

 

Viz Media publishes the manga in the English edition of Weekly Shonen Jump and in print in North America.
