Daily Lives of High School Boys' Yasunobu Yamauchi Launches Fantasy Manga

The official Twitter account for Square Enix's Gangan Online web manga magazine revealed on Tuesday that Yasunobu Yamauchi launched a new manga titled Hakurai no Kishi (The Knight of White Thunder) on Tuesday. In the "quintessential fantasy of sword and sorcery, and of humans and beasts," a wise king named Carliga and a hero named Jack are enmeshed in a conflict over the Holy Sword, a relic of a great war. The sword will once again bring together the ambitions of two great nations, and a woman bandit named Zety will also become involved in the conflict.

Yamauchi previously drew the Daily Lives of High School Boys manga. Yamauchi launched the manga in Square Enix's Gangan Online website in 2009, and ended it in September 2017. Square Enix published seven volumes for the manga. Vertical licensed the manga in July earlier this year.

The manga inspired a television anime in 2012. NIS America released the anime on home video. The manga also inspired a live-action film adaptation in 2013.

Koyama began the first Azumi manga in 1994 in Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior magazine, and it won the Excellence Prize at the first ACA Media Arts Festival, Manga Division in 1997. He ended the series in 2008. This series inspired the 2005 and 2016 stage play adaptations, the latter of which was also titled Azumi Bakumatsu-hen.

In 2009, Koyama launched a continuation of the series also titled Azumi (title written in English instead of Japanese) in the same magazine, and ended it in February 2014. Shogakukan published 18 compiled book volumes for the manga. This series inspired the 2014 stage play adaptation.

The first series has also been adapted into two live-action movies, both of which were released in North America by Urban Vision.

'7 Seeds' Receives Second Season on Netflix in 2020

The anime adaptation of the 7 Seeds manga will receive a second season on Netflix. Included in the official website's announcement Monday was a new trailer and key visual (pictured) for the season, which is set to stream in 2020.

The staff and cast will return for the second season, led by director Yukio Takahashi and animation studio Gonzo. The only key addition is an additional production credit for Studio Kai, a new studio founded by Gonzo at the end of July.

The official website also announced a television run for the first season starting in January 2020. The 12-episode season has streamed on Netflix since June 28.

Synopsis

In the immediate future, a giant meteorite has collided with earth. All living organisms, including mankind, have been wiped off the face of the planet. The government, who had foreseen this outcome, took measures to counter the worst-case scenario. In particular was Project "7SEEDS," in which five sets of seven young men and women were carefully selected and placed into teams (Spring, Summer A, Summer B, Autumn and Winter). Each participant was then put under cryogenic sleep in hopes of preserving the continued existence of mankind.

When those men and women awoke, they found themselves suddenly thrust into a cruel world. While bereft and grieved over forever losing their loved ones, they sought to find ways to survive. (Source: MU)

The 7 Seeds manga was penned by Yumi Tamura over a span of 16 years, beginning in Betsucomi magazine and a year later switching to Monthly Flowers for the remainder of its serialization. The 35th and final volume was released in August 2017.

High School DxD's Ishibumi's Previous Work Slashdog Gets Manga

Writer Ichiei Ishibumi announced on Sunday that his Daten no Inugami -Slashdog- (The Fallen Dog God -Slashdog-) light novel series is inspiring a manga adaptation that will launch in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Alive magazine on December 26. Kikurage, the illustrator of the novel series, is also drawing the manga.

Ishibumi actually wrote the first volume of the story in 2006, before his more popular High School DxD series, and the novel was then titled Slash/Dog. That series only received one volume, before Ishibumi revived the series with a new first volume (seen right) in November 2017, with the full title of Daten no Inugami -Slashdog- High School DxD Universe. Kadokawa published the third volume last December.

Set in the same universe as High School DxD, but years before the events of that series, the story centers on Tobio Ikuse, a high school student still reeling from an incident that caused the disappearance of his childhood friends. One day, he is attacked by beings known as "Utsusemi," but is rescued by Natsume, one of his missing friends. Together with Natsume and another girl named Vali, he races to find out the cause of his friends' disappearance.

Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero launched the High School DxD novel series in 2008, and ended it with the 25th volume in March 2018. The pair then launched the Shin High School DxD novel series in July of that same year, and Kadokawa published the third volume on August 20. Yen Press also published all 11 volumes of Hiroji Mishima's High School DxD manga adaptation.

The novel series inspired four television anime adaptations in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018. Funimation released all four series on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in North America.

Funimation to Add Robotech TV Series, Films to Catalog

Funimation announced on Monday that it is adding Harmony Gold's Robotech television series, the Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles feature film, and the Robotech II: The Sentinels film to its catalog. Funimation's new license from Kew Media Distribution includes worldwide rights outside Japan. The rights include video on demand, electronic sell-through, home entertainment, and merchandising.

Robotech was Harmony Gold's edited and rewritten 1985 adaptation of three separate anime science-fiction series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada. The series is streaming on Crackle, Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video. The 2006 Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles film was a U.S.-produced sequel to the television series.

ADV Films and A&E Networks Home Entertainment released the 1985 series on DVD in North America. Harmony Gold launched a Kickstarter campaign for a Robotech Academy pilot in July 2014, which was eventually cancelled.

Sony is planning a live-action Robotech film.
